Wedding Wishing Well Verses

Our Favorite Wishing Well Verse

Many of our guests have enquired
for a gift idea to be inspired.
Like many young couples today,
we have a lot of things anyway.
If you would like to give, it is our request,
for something for our treasure chest.
A gift of money you can afford,
is just what we need, you can be assured!
(Optional Line)
Without the help of this little pun,
our honeymoon might not be as much fun.

Wishing Well Verse 1

These two love birds have it all
family, friends and so much more.

If a gift you intend to help their nest
and you need some assistance, may we suggest
a donation in their little bird cage
to assist them along on their next life stage.

Envelopes will be left in the reception room
to bestow a gift upon the Bride and Groom.

Wishing Well Verse 2

Because at first we lived in sin
We’ve got the sheets and a rubbish bin
A gift from you would be swell
But we’d prefer a donation to our Wishing Well

Wishing Well Verse 3

If you were thinking of giving a gift, to help us on our way.
A gift of cash towards our house, would really make our day.
However, if you prefer to purchase a gift, feel free to surprise us in your own way.

Wishing Well Verse 4

To support us on our special day
you may wish to follow with tradition and bring a gift.
Or alternatively you may like to help us
make our honeymoon a little more special.
For this reason we have chosen a wedding treasure chest.
The treasure chest will be at the reception
where we can receive your best wishes and contribution.

Wishing Well Verse 5

If finding a gift is hard to do
our wishing well is just for you!
A gift of money is placed in the well,
then make a wish but do not tell!
If it is however a gift you find,
please feel assured we will not mind.

Wishing Well Verse 6

We don’t want to offend but we have it all
All household goods and so much more
To save you shopping, sit back, and rest
A gift of currency is our request

Wishing Well Verse 7

Your presence at our wedding is present enough.
But if we’re honoured with a gift from you
May we respectfully request a gift of money
To help the building of our dream home come true!

Wishing Well Verse 8

To save you looking, shopping or buying.
Here is an idea, we hope you like trying.
Come to our wedding, to wish us both well.
And bring this small sack, to throw in our wishing well.
Fill it with paper all colours will do,
gold is our favourite but silver will do.
Now that we have saved you, all of that fuss.
We hope you will come, and celebrate with us.

Wishing Well Verse 9

Soon you will hear our wedding bells,
as Friends and family wish us well.
Our household treasures are not brand new,
we have twice the things we need for two.
Since we have our share of dishes and bedding,
we’re having instead a wishing well wedding.
But more important we ask of you,
your prayers of love and blessings too.

Wishing Well Verse 10

If you were thinking of giving a gift to help us on our way,
a gift of cash towards our house, would really make our day.
However, if you prefer to purchase a gift,
feel free to surprise us in your own way.

Wishing Well Verse 11

More than just kisses so far we've shared
Our home has been made with love and care
Most things we need we’ve already got
Like a toaster and kettle, pans and pots

A wishing well we thought would be great
(but only if you wish to participate)
A gift of money is placed in the well
Then make a wish … but do not tell
Once we’ve replaced the old with the new
We can look back and say it was thanks to you!
And in return for your kindness we’re sure
that one day soon you'll get what you wished for!

Poems and verses for funerals

Poems and verses for funerals can bring comfort during such an upsetting and difficult time. Some poems can be uplifting, whilst others may be quite emotional or even funny. Here are some suggestions for anyone wishing to choose a moving poem or verse for their loved one’s funeral.

In this guide:

Popular funeral poems and verses

The following verses are among the most popular for a funeral. Similar to funeral songs and hymns, there are a number of poems and verses which are frequently chosen for funeral services.

Some of the most popular funeral poems include:

She Is Gone (He Is Gone)

You can shed tears that she is gone
Or you can smile because she has lived
You can close your eyes and pray that she will come back
Or you can open your eyes and see all that she has left
Your heart can be empty because you can’t see her
Or you can be full of the love that you shared
You can turn your back on tomorrow and live yesterday
Or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday
You can remember her and only that she is gone
Or you can cherish her memory and let it live on
You can cry and close your mind, be empty and turn your back
Or you can do what she would want: smile, open your eyes, love and go on.

David Harkins

Remember Me

To the living, I am gone,
To the sorrowful, I will never return,
To the angry, I was cheated,
But to the happy, I am at peace,
And to the faithful, I have never left.
I cannot speak, but I can listen.
I cannot be seen, but I can be heard.
So as you stand upon a shore gazing at a beautiful sea,
As you look upon a flower and admire its simplicity,
Remember me.
Remember me in your heart:
Your thoughts, and your memories,
Of the times we loved,
The times we cried,
The times we fought,
The times we laughed.
For if you always think of me, I will never have gone.

Margaret Mead

Don't Cry for Me

Don't cry for me now I have died, for I'm still here I'm by your side,
My body's gone but my soul is here, please don't shed another tear,
I am still here I'm all around, only my body lies in the ground.
I am the snowflake that kisses your nose,
I am the frost, that nips your toes.
I am the sun, bringing you light,
I am the star, shining so bright.
I am the rain, refreshing the earth,
I am the laughter, I am the mirth.
I am the bird, up in the sky,
I am the cloud, that's drifting by.
I am the thoughts, inside your head,
While I'm still there, I can't be dead.

Do Not Stand At My Grave and Weep

Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there. I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn’s rain.
When you awaken in the morning’s hush,
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry;
I am not there. I did not die.

Mary Frye

Let Me Go

When I come to the end of the road
And the sun has set for me
I want no rites in a gloom filled room
Why cry for a soul set free?
Miss me a little, but not for long
And not with your head bowed low
Remember the love that once we shared
Miss me, but let me go.
For this is a journey we all must take
And each must go alone.
It's all part of the master plan
A step on the road to home.
When you are lonely and sick at heart
Go to the friends we know.
Laugh at all the things we used to do
Miss me, but let me go.

Christina Rossetti

Tear drops, slow and steady, The pain so real and true,
God took another angel, And that angel, dear, was you.
Angel wings, upon the clouds, Your body softly sleeps,
Hush now little angel, No more tears you have to weep.
Little prayers are sent to you, The short life you led;
Your family will never forget you, So rest your little head.
I know God will look after you, Now you are truly alive,
Your spirit soars beyond the moon, Your legacy will survive.
You’re beautiful, you’re endless, Now stretch your wings and fly,
You’re loved by so many, It will never be goodbye.
Close your pretty eyes, No more tears, just go and rest,
Let your soul lie peacefully, We know you did your best.

Come with me

God saw you getting tired
And a cure was not to be
So He put His arms around you
And whispered ‘Come with Me.’
With tearful eyes
We watched you suffer
And saw you fade away,
Although we loved you dearly
We could not make you stay.
A golden heart stopped beating,
Hard working hands at rest,
God broke our hearts to prove
He only takes the best.
It’s lonesome here without you,
We miss you more each day,
Life doesn’t seem the same
Since you’ve gone away.
When days are sad and lonely
And everything goes wrong,
We seem to hear you whisper
‘Cheer up and carry on.’
Each time we see your picture,
You seem to smile and say
‘Don’t cry, I’m in God’s keeping
We’ll meet again someday.’
You never said ‘I’m leaving’,
You never said goodbye,
You were gone before we knew it,
And only God knew why.
A million times we needed you,
A million times we cried,
If love alone could have saved you,
You never would have died.
In life we loved you dearly,
In death we love you still ,
In our hearts you hold a place,
That no one could ever fill.
It broke our hearts to lose you,
But you didn’t go alone,
For part of us went with you,
The day God took you home.

Rhonda Braswell

Gone, But Not Forgotten

Don’t think of her/him as gone away
Her/His journey’s just begun,
Life holds so many facets
This earth is only one.
Just think of her/him as resting
From the sorrows and the tears
In a place of warmth and comfort
Where there are no days and years.
Think how she/he must be wishing
That we could know today
How nothing but our sadness
Can really pass away.
And think of her/him as living
In the hearts of those she/he touched
For nothing loved is ever lost
And she/he was loved so much.

How Did They Live?

Not, how did they die, but how did they live?
Not, what did they gain, but what did they give?
These are the units to measure the worth
Of a person as a person, regardless of birth.
Not, what was their church, nor what was their creed?
But had they befriended those really in need?
Were they ever ready, with a word of good cheer,
To bring back a smile, to banish a tear?
Not, what did the sketch in the newspaper say,
But how many were sorry when they passed away?

Happy and funny funeral poems

A funeral poem or verse doesn’t necessarily have to be sad. There are a number of happy and funny funeral poems which can help celebrate the life of your loved one and comfort those left behind:

I'd like the memory of me to be a happy one.
I'd like to leave an afterglow of smiles when life is done.
I'd like to leave an echo whispering softly down the ways,
Of happy times and laughing times and bright and sunny days.
I'd like the tears of those who grieve, to dry before the sun;
Of happy memories that I leave when life is done.

All Is Well

Death is nothing at all,
I have only slipped into the next room
I am I and you are you
Whatever we were to each other, that we are still.
Call me by my old familiar name,
Speak to me in the easy way which you always used
Put no difference in your tone,
Wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow
Laugh as we always laughed at the little jokes we enjoyed together.
Play, smile, think of me, pray for me.
Let my name be ever the household word that it always was,
Let it be spoken without effect, without the trace of shadow on it.
Life means all that it ever meant.
It is the same as it ever was, there is unbroken continuity.
Why should I be out of mind because I am out of sight?
I am waiting for you, for an interval, somewhere very near,
Just around the corner.
All is well.

Henry Scott Holland

Pardon Me for Not Getting Up

Oh dear, if you're reading this right now,
I must have given up the ghost.
I hope you can forgive me for being
Such a stiff and unwelcoming host.
Just talk amongst yourself my friends,
And share a toast or two.
For I am sure you will remember well
How I loved to drink with you.
Don't worry about mourning me,
I was never easy to offend.
Feel free to share a story at my expense
And we'll have a good laugh at the end.

I Am Free

Don’t grieve for me, for now I’m free,
I’m following the path God laid for me.
I took His hand when I heard Him call,
I turned my back and left it all.
I could not stay another day, to laugh,
To love, to work or play.
Tasks undone must stay that way
I’ve found that peace at the close of the day.
If parting has left a void,
Then fill it with remembered joy.
A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss,
Ah, yes, these things I too will miss.
Be not burdened with times of sorrow
I wish for you the sunshine of tomorrow.
My life’s been full, I savoured much
Good friends, good times, a loved one’s touch.
Perhaps my time seemed all too brief,
Don’t lengthen it now with undue grief.
Lift up your hearts and share with me,
God wants me now, He set me free.

Short funeral poems

If you feel anxious about reading a long poem or want to keep the service as short as possible, you may wish to choose a short funeral poem which is still a touching tribute to your loved one and the life they have left behind. Here are a few short funeral poems:

If I Should Go Tomorrow

If I should go tomorrow
It would never be goodbye,
For I have left my heart with you,
So don't you ever cry.
The love that's deep within me,
Shall reach you from the stars,
You'll feel it from the heavens,
And it will heal the scars.

A Song of Living

Because I have loved life, I shall have no sorrow to die.
I have sent up my gladness on wings, to be lost in the blue of the sky.
I have run and leaped with the rain,
I have taken the wind to my breast.
My cheek like a drowsy child
to the face of the earth I have pressed.
Because I have loved life,
I shall have no sorrow to die.

Amelia Josephine Burr

The Star

A light went out on Earth for me
The day we said goodbye
And on that day a star was born,
The brightest in the sky
Reaching through the darkness
With its rays of purest white
Lighting up the Heavens
As it once lit up my life
With beams of love to heal
The broken heart you left behind
Where always in my memory
Your lovely star will shine

Because I Love You So

Time will not dim the face I love,
The voice I heard each day,
The many things you did for me,
In your own special way.
All my life I’ll miss you,
As the years come and go,
But in my heart I’ll keep you,
Because I love you so.

Non-religious funeral poems

If your loved one didn’t have any religious beliefs, you may wish to choose a non-religious funeral poem or verse:

I’m There Inside Your Heart

Right now I’m in a different place
And though we seem apart
I’m closer than I ever was,
I’m there inside your heart.
I’m with you when you greet each day
And while the sun shines bright
I’m there to share the sunsets, too
I’m with you every night.
I’m with you when the times are good
To share a laugh or two,
And if a tear should start to fall
I’ll still be there for you.
And when that day arrives
That we no longer are apart,
I’ll smile and hold you close to me,
Forever in my heart.

To Those Whom I love & Those Who Love Me

When I am gone, release me, let me go.
I have so many things to see and do,
You mustn't tie yourself to me with too many tears,
But be thankful we had so many good years.
I gave you my love, and you can only guess
How much you've given me in happiness.
I thank you for the love that you have shown,
But now it is time I travelled on alone.
So grieve for me a while, if grieve you must,
Then let your grief be comforted by trust.
It is only for a while that we must part,
So treasure the memories within your heart.
I won't be far away for life goes on.
And if you need me, call and I will come.
Though you can't see or touch me, I will be near.
And if you listen with your heart, you'll hear,
All my love around you soft and clear.
And then, when you come this way alone,
I'll greet you with a smile and a 'Welcome Home'.

One At Rest

Think of me as one at rest,
for me you should not weep
I have no pain no troubled thoughts
for I am just asleep
The living thinking me that was,
is now forever still
And life goes on without me now,
as time forever will.
If your heart is heavy now
because I've gone away
Dwell not long upon it friend
For none of us can stay

Those of you who liked me,
I sincerely thank you all
And those of you who loved me,
I thank you most of all.
And in my fleeting lifespan,
as time went rushing by
I found some time to hesitate,
to laugh, to love, to cry

Matters it now if time began
If time will ever cease?
I was here, I used it all,
and now I am at peace.

Funeral Blues

Stop all the clocks, cut off the telephone,
Prevent the dog from barking with a juicy bone,
Silence the pianos and with muffled drum
Bring out the coffin, let the mourners come.

Let airplanes circle moaning overhead
Scribbling on the sky the message "He is Dead",
Put Crepe bows round the white necks of the public doves,
Let the traffic policemen wear black cotton gloves.

He was my North, my South, my East and West,
My working week and my Sunday-rest,
My noon, my midnight, my talk , my song;
I thought that love would last forever: I was wrong

The stars are not wanted now: put out every one;
Pack up the moon and dismantle the sun;
Pour away the ocean and sweep up the wood,
For nothing now can ever come to any good

We are putting everyone's name into a drawing who brings diapers for a "better" favor like lotion or something.

Need Poem For "Diaper Shower" Invitations!

by Ann (Houston)

Need help with wording a short as possible poem for a baby shower.  The mom needs mostly diapers and wet wipes as she has most everything else from first daughter.

We know this is a girl, too. Its a "Victorian tea party" like shower. We would like guests to know that Mom would like diapers and wet wipes, any addition gift is appreciated but not necessary. How do to say that besides "Please bring diapers and/or wet wipes for Mom and baby, any gifts in addition to this are not expected but appreciated".

Its hard to think of a poem for diapers that is pretty! Invitations are bordered with pink roses and have a pink ribbon, very feminine. Any ideas? Thanks for any help!

This is great for a 2nd baby shower since the parents probably have all of the basic baby items needed.

To add a little extra glee,
and help the parents-to-be,

Please bring a little extra from the heart.
An unwrapped pack of diapers & wipes, To give them a good start!

Editor's Note: To build on this idea, when guests come through the door with a bag of diapers or wipes - have them write their name on a small piece of paper and place in a bowl - draw from the bowl of names at the end of the shower - the winner gets a prize!

Wording For Diaper & Wipes Invite

by L (San Martin, CA)

I want to have a shower for my step daughter who hardly comes around.
So that means she actually doesn't even know our friends & hasn't seen my family for sometime. I want to do my part & let her know we care.

She was having another shower with her mothers family but it has totally fallen apart. This is her 1st child. It is going to be small & I have  explained to our close friends that I know they don't know her but if they could please support us. My family is really supportive. But I don't want to ask my friends/family to buy expensive things. I was thinking of a diapers & wipes shower.
HELP the shower is soon -

when you do your shower for her. I suggest you tell your friends that don't really know her that a small gift would be nice. But I have also heard that some showers have also included a prize to all who bring in a pack of diapers, they have a chance to win some sort of beauty basket. That is a great way to get plenty of diapers. Just gather some items and make a basket of goodies and let your guest know if they bring in a pack of diapers they could be the winner of a nice gift for themselves.

This was a great site to get me started.
by: Anonymous

Along with my invitations I printed on pink paper with clip art two beer mugs on each side of You bring the Huggies
We provide the Chuggies

The guys are invited to a Diaper Party
Honoring the Dad-to-be
Mom-to-be (Name) will be having her shower
While Daddy (name) and the guys enjoy their own happy hour
If you want to help out
The Mommy and Daddy to be
Bring along a pack of diapers
Size 1, 2, or 3
It's an optional thing
Don't feel obliged
But for every pack
You could win a great prize!
Tickets will be given
For a raffle to be won
While you're fishing or playing corn hole
And having lot's of fun!
Good food and refreshments
Are all to be had
But best is the company
Witnessing (name) become a DAD!

my own invite wording
by: crystal smith

I've decided to have a diaper shower since this is my 4th baby and i'm in need of only diapers and wipes. I just wrote these out this week.

The front says: We are tickled Pink! Once again and happy to say that baby (baby's name) is on her way!

The inside says: No fancy dresses, No fancy toys
What Mommy & Daddy need
is help filling my
Diaper & Wipe Drawer

So bring a pack no matter how small
it will be greatly appreciated
by my baby toosh most of all

Diaper Shower for Dad-To-Be (POEM)
by: Lindsey H. - Daytona Beach, FL

I was having such a hard time finding one online that I decided to make one of my own!!! It might be a little cheesy, but I figured I'd share, in the hopes of helping someone else out!

(I inserted these with the regular baby shower invitations that I sent out, and put them in the ones who had husbands/boyfriends)

The top of the invitation says: "The Guys are Invited!"

And the poem reads:
Bottles and booties, diapers and pins,
This is where the love begins!
Mom-to-be will be having her shower,
While the guys enjoy their own Happy Hour,
We can't forget (insert dad's name), the Dad-to-be,
Come celebrate with him at the Diaper Party!

Then I put at the bottom a Where (location), When (time), and What to Bring (A pack of diapers!) <---- or whatever YOU need for your child.

Then below that, I put "(dad's name) will be cooking out, feel free to bring drinks of your choice"
