When life gets hard, we sometimes forget that God is right there, listening to us and addressing our needs. Our circumstances can cause us to drift away from God and not trust that His plan is right for us. But God knows and understands the hopes and fears we keep in our hearts. In fact, He’s the best listener. Even when we don’t shout or cry out loud, He hears even our silent prayers. It’s important that we trust Him, especially during our darkest hours. If you're enduring a season of hardship, be encouraged and use this time to build your faith. God is still on the throne and He's in control. Let these 20 pearls of wisdom from the book of Job remind us that God always has the last say in our lives.
The Bible tells us that as soon as Job received the terrible news about losing his children and his wealth. He immediately responded by seeking God in worship saying, "The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord." It’s ok to seek God and cast your care on Him. Sometimes we forget to cast all our cares on Him, and spend more time and effort in worrying than focusing on the peace that comes from resting in God. We should call on God to help me open our mind to understanding through God’s Word and realize that worry not only robs us of our joy and peace in Him, but is rooted in the sin of unbelief. Whenever we are lost, call on God to provide you with understanding that He alone is the One that will replace foolish worries with divine wisdom.
Job never wavered in his integrity. He held firmly to the character of God and focused on Him instead of the current circumstances. Integrity is everything and its importance can’t be overstated. Those who operate at high levels don’t compromise their principles or values. It’s important that you ask yourself what are your values? What do you stand for? There is no reason that we can’t consistently be honorable in our own spheres of influence. We will reap huge gains if we demonstrate to those around us that they can depend on what we say.
One of Job's friends suggested that his hardship was the result of sin and that it was meant for discipline and reproof. However God declared that Job was "blameless and upright." We should be very mindful of the people we are choosing to seek counsel from because they are not always steering us in the right direction. All counsel is not sensible counsel.
God is faithful. If you lack confidence, it may be a result of anxiety in your heart. Worrying can be harmful not only to our emotional health, but also to our physical health. Excessive worrying can lead to depression and can even cause us to become physically ill. When we worry, we get so lost in what “might” happen that we lose sight of our peace and happiness, and can no longer find our inner calm. If worry is currently on your heart or you’ve simply lost your way, there is hope, and that hope can be channeled through confidence in God.
Spend time with friends who have the gift of encouragement. Job had another friend that reminded him, "God will not reject a blameless man. He will yet fill your mouth with laughter, and your lips with shouting." The Bible tells us “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is – his good, pleasing and perfect will” (Romans 12:2 NIV). Community is an answer to this call, designed to form a counter culture where faith is encouraged.
Job knew that God saw his calamity and he resolved that the Almighty had a rescue plan for him as he said, "I know my redeemer lives." Believe that God will rescue You. Often we are concerned with the things that are going wrong in our lives. It may be issues with your job, family, finances and relationships to name a few. It feels like everything is crashing in around you. Fear of the future can cause you to worry and fear - and we know that it is not God’s Will that His children are distressed about the things of this life. We know that God tells us not to fear and yet it is hard when life is becoming so difficult. Call on God to free you from all worry. Ask Him to help you fix your mind away from distress.
God protected Job and chastised his friends when He said, "My anger burns against you and against your two friends, for you have not spoken of me what is right, as my servant Job has." God not only defends us, but He is always present in your life, even in your lonely and broken hours. It’s important that you remain faithful and not lose hope. The Bible tells us, “Those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint” (Isaiah 40:31). You may feel like you’re alone, but God is right there. Scripture promises that the Lord will fight for us. We only need to be still. Trust that God is a constant presence in your life.
God know our hearts, so when satan challenged the Lord in chapter one regarding Job's character...God already knew Job would withstand. God is listening to you and knows exactly what you can handle. Every time you speak, God is listening to you, including your concerns and needs. Even when you doubt that God is listening, He always proves that He is. He doesn’t have a dial that he turns up and down when He feels like not tuning in. Sometimes, you need to turn the volume of the world down to hear God’s voice. When life gets hard, allow His voice to speak over your fears.
While the reader knows about the opening scene of the Book of Job, Job himself had know idea. God is always working behind the scenes in our life, and what may look like a "setback" becomes a "setup" for great blessing. Behind the scenes, he is working miracles in your life. When you are in a very hard situation, God wants you to remember that miracles happen. These miracles show up in every dream that you have that comes true, in every enlightening moment you have, in every person who has moved or transformed your life, and in every person you love – in these very moments, God’s making miracles happen. These miracles aren’t always going to be big. Sometimes, they are small. He is bringing you small miracles so that you can believe in the bigger ones. Look around you. When you look for the small miracles, you will see that they are everywhere.
God brags on us when we walk according to His will. He says this about Job, "Have you considered my servant Job, that there is none like him on the earth, a blameless and upright man..." One of the reasons he boasts about you is because of His love for you. No action you make and no sin that you commit can make Him love you any less. The Bible tells us, “See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know Him.” When life gets hard, it’s important that you remember that God loves you – no matter how many mistakes you make or how many times you are angry with Him. God doesn’t love us for superficial, earthly reasons. God loves you for you.
God didn't leave Job hanging in the midst of trial and hardship. This has to do a great deal with God’s mercy. We should thank God for granting us abundant mercy and for the Grace we receive from Him. Ask God to give you peace in mind, body, soul and spirit. Also, call on Him to heal everything that is causing stress, grief, and sorrow in your life. God has the power to guide your path through life and make peace with our stressors and our enemies. May God’s peace reign in your family, in your place of work, businesses and everything
God has faith in us. He is our biggest cheerleader and always believes the best of us. God allowed Job to endure this season and had faith in his ability to overcome. We should also live our life with faith in God. Hope comes when you trust in God and tell Him all your problems, knowing He is your protector. It’s OK to tell Him you are angry, scared, or that you feel numb. In those moments when you feel numb, when you feel like you’ve lost His love, go to God and tell Him that. Hebrews 10:23 teaches us, “We can trust God to do what He promised” and He promises to pour His love into our hearts. Trust in His love and His healing power in all circumstances.
Throughout the story God was listening in on the conversations and was close to Job. The Bible tells us that God is close to the brokenhearted, so no matter what you're going through...God is there. God is also an extraordinary healer and can calm us when we’re going through trials. Jesus not only carries all of your pain, but also has the power to heal you. Even in times of difficulty and uncertainty, God wants us to know that He is present and able to make us whole again. The beautiful part is that when God heals and restores, our lives are transformed. Trust in His power.
More times than not, trial seasons are an opportunity to grow spiritually in your walk with God. God will carry you through the storm. The Bible tells us, “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze” (Isaiah 43:2). Every difficult situation you face, whether big or small, is preparing you to be stronger. God will use your trials to produce greater faith and strength if you allow Him to. Your pain has purpose, even when you don’t understand why in this moment.
Even though we don't know exactly why God allowed Job to be tested in this way, we do know that His plan is ultimately to grow us up for the better. Trials often present us with feelings of stress. Let God know that you have a tremendous amount of stress on your heart. Ask God to grant you peace of mind and to calm your troubled heart. Your soul is like a turbulent sea. You may not be able to find your balance so you may stumble and worry constantly. Call on God to give you the strength and clarity of mind to find your purpose and walk the path He’s laid out for you.
In all our getting we should get understanding. At the end of the Book of Job, we see a stronger and more mature Job who grew in his understanding of God. His Words also bring us life. God’s Word says the prayer of faith has healing power. Go to God today in faith and ask that He delivers clarity and healing in your life. We receive healing by faith. Open yourself up today to God’s blessings, healing and miracles. Let all worries leave your heart. Don’t forget that you have a God who cares, who loves you so deeply and will never let you go.
God is a God of justice. He will not let us go through a season of sowing and ignore our season of reaping. Be steadfast and lean on Him through Christ. God has a reason for allowing things to happen. The Bible tells us, “For I know the plans I have for you declares the Lord. Plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future (Jeremiah 29:11). We may never understand His wisdom but we simply have to trust His will. God has a plan for your life. Pray for His direction to follow it, patience to wait on it and knowledge to know when it comes.
In chapter's 38 and 39 God spends time affirming His sovereignty in both the heavens and the earth, reminding Job that he is a created being subject to a powerful and awesome Creator. If you are battling something right now and searching for support and help, remember that God is with you and has the power to heal you from the inside out. While we may never understand why God allows some of us to go through certain trials, we all can know for certain that God is sovereign and that He loves us through all of the storms in this life. Never underestimate the power of prayer and faith.
Job, like many of us wanted clarity about his current state. It's a not a sin to ask God questions and to plead our case before Him. Call on God to remove your burdens. Tell God that you need Him know and that you are full of stress and anxiety. Ask for God to come in and take away your heavy burdens. He can take each burden away one by one and lay them at your feet. Also ask for God to carry them so you don’t have to. Replace them with Your humble and gentle yoke so that you will find rest in your soul today. We can find peace in God.
"And the Lord blessed the latter days of Job more than his beginning," - Job 42:12. The enemy did not have the last say in Job's life. God did. And while we're all going through our own issues, let's remember that Job reaped a lifetime of blessing from a season of distress. God's blessings are inevitable when you maintain a steadfast walk with Him. The Bible tells us, “For I know the plans I have for you declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you. Plans to give you hope and a future” (Jeremiah 29:11). God has a perfect plan for you. Sometimes it seems like His plans are always different from our plans, but His plans are always perfect. He never does it all at once, just step by step because He wants to teach us to walk by faith, not by sight. It’s important that we are patient and trust in His timing.
If you’re facing a hardship and struggling with hope today, pray this prayer: Lord, help me to hear you saying, “I am your hope” over all the other voices. I’m running to you with both hands stretch out and grabbing on to You. Fill me up with hope and give me a tangible reminder today that hope is an unbreakable spiritual lifeline. Help me to also see that all things are possible with You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
