Birthdays are special to everyone. Gifts on the day of birthday are surely a thing to be cherished. 50 happy Birthday Wishing Messages for Facebook Friends.

Hey everyone, with polls officially closed on both coasts, it is time for my annual birthday analytics report. This year, I again saw strong YoY (year over year) growth in the number of ‘Happy Birthday!’ Facebook wall posts. As you can see, after a striking drop at age 23, I have bounced back to my age 22 levels.

I am unsure of what caused the downtick during ages 20-23, but I can only imagine it’s because I stopped paying for likes. Fortunately, I am again gaining ground, and I hope the trend continues upward. However, to ensure that I continue to improve, I need to dig into the spike.

The increase in happy birthday posts for G25 (Ginny Year 25) could be due to:

  • My increased popularity. For example, when I brought donuts to work on 3/18/16, I was told “Thank You” by four co-workers and “Thanks, Ginny” by two others. These interactions indicated goodwill and could account for up to six posts.
  • My “Save the Date” cards reminding Facebook friends of my birthday are effective. I had concerns that people would assume I was getting married, but as it turns out, no one has thought that. Weird — need to dig further.
  • I wrote a Python script to automatically comment “looking good girllll!” on everything Jennifer Williams posted G25.
  • A close friend, Karen Shen, suggested maybe bad weather on the East Coast could have driven more people to their computers, and then they would be more inclined to send a happy birthday note. Good hypothesis, Karen, except that it would only apply to the .04% of people I know without smartphones. Why don’t you think before you speak next, Karen?
  • I am and have always been uniquely special so it is inevitable that in the end everyone will love me and maybe actually genuinely want me to have a happy birthday.

In addition to growth in number of birthday posts, I also wanted to look at retention. Of the 75 people who wrote me a happy birthday wall post last year, 42 came back this year to do the same. This corresponds to a 44% churn rate, which I find unacceptable. This year, I committed myself to liking each happy birthday post within 15 minutes of receiving it. In doing so, I believe I provided a better user experience for the happy-birthday-wishers in the hopes that they be willing to write on my wall again next year. I anticipate that this will result in a higher retention rate for G26 (Ginny Year 26). I am also going to start a viral meme campaign in which every year on my birthday, people take photos of themselves writing on my wall. It would be like a yearbook, except only about me, and as a result, my friends would be more likely to be repeat happy-birthday-wishers.

I also wanted to examine what percentage of my friends defriended me on my birthday. According to my research, it is very common to defriend your Facebook friends on their birthdays because you’re reminded of their existence. I’m proud to report that I started my birthday with 1,068 friends and ended it with 1,066 friends, which means fewer than .2% of my Facebook friends unfriended me. I find it satisfying to know that my existence only drove two people to remove me from their lists. I have several hypotheses for the low defriending rate:

  • I’ve already defriended a lot of people. How many is a lot? At least six past sexual partners and four amateur kickball-team’s worth.
  • People want to keep our Facebook friendship intact because my Facebook page always makes people feel great by comparison.
  • I have diversified my Facebook output, allowing the site’s algorithm to include my posts in all newsfeeds, regardless of their age, political preferences, language, or mental health condition. As a result, I’ve already reminded friends of my existence.

As I always say, the number of happy birthday posts you get on Facebook sets the tone for the year, and Mark wouldn’t give us the numbers if he didn’t want us to analyze them and adjust our self-esteem accordingly. Anyway, thanks again for all the happy birthday wishes, friends!

45 million people send birthday wishes on Facebook each day

happy birthday wishes on facebook wall

Birthdays are special. Thanks to Facebook, everyone now 'remembers' your birthday. Whether it's your co-workers or a distant relative, everyone will suddenly start crowding your timeline on your birthday.

But, it’s more special when you know that the person actually remembers your birthday and they took some time to either call you or leave a warm message.

If you don’t the like the fake birthday wishes or you want to know who actually remembers your birthday without a Facebook reminder, you can hide your birthday from your Facebook account. In this post, we tell you how to hide your birthday from your friends on Facebook.

How to Hide Birthday Notification on Facebook

If you don’t want others to get notified about your birthday or, in other words, you want to hide your birthday notification from your friends, all you need to do is change the privacy of your birthday.

You have to keep it visible to yourself only and that way others won’t get a notification that it’s your birthday.

Here's how to do it on the web and mobile apps.

Using Facebook Website

Step 1: Open the Facebook website on your PC and log in with your account. Go to your profile page and click About present below the cover photo.

Step 2: Then, from the left sidebar, click Contact and basic info.

Step 3: In the Contact and basic info option, scroll down and you will see Date of birth under Basic Information. Hover your mouse over Date of birth and click the Edit option.

Step 4: Click the Audience selector icon next to the month and date and change it to the Only me option. Click the Save changes button.

Using Facebook Mobile App

Step 1: Open the Facebook app on your mobile and go to your profile. Tap the Edit Profile option present below your profile picture.

Step 2: Scroll down and tap on Edit your About Info. Then, on the next screen, again scroll down and tap the Edit option next to Basic Info.

Step 3: Tap the audience selector tool next to the Birthday option and choose the Only me option from the menu. Tap the Save button at the bottom of the screen.

That’s it. Now your friends won’t be notified on your birthday. Meanwhile, are you wondering how Facebook picks your People you may know, read this.

Block Birthday Wishes on Facebook

If you don’t want to hide your birthday on Facebook, yet, at the same time, also don’t want others to bombard your timeline with birthday wishes (read fake birthday wishes), you can block birthday posts.

Facebook doesn’t provide any special option to block birthday wishes particularly. But, there is a neat workaround to achieve this.

All you need to do is change privacy settings of your Facebook posts for a day or two. By doing this, your Facebook friends won’t be able to post anything on your profile.

Block People From Posting on Your Facebook Timeline

Step 1: Open Facebook website on your PC and log in with your account. Tap the small down arrow in the top bar and select Settings from the menu.

Step 2: From the left sidebar, click on Timeline and tagging. Then, hit the Edit button next to Timeline – Who can post on your timeline? option.

Step 3: From the audience selector tool, choose the Only Me option. That’s it. By doing this, you are disabling your Facebook timeline. You should turn the option on again after 2-3 days of your birthday so that people can post on your timeline again.

Do you want to see who visited your Facebook profile on your birthday? Actually, can you? Check this post to know.

Hide Birthday Posts on Facebook

In order to hide an individual birthday post from your timeline, follow these steps:

Step 1: Open your Facebook profile page and navigate to the post that you want to hide from your timeline. On both Facebook web and mobile app, hit the three-dot menu in the top-right corner of that post.

Step 2: From the menu, choose the Hide from timeline option. The post will now be hidden from your timeline and your friends won’t be able to see it.

If, however, you want only a few people to see all your birthday posts, go to Facebook Settings > Timeline and tagging. Then, under the Timeline label, hit the Who can see what others post on your timeline? option and choose your audience as per your need.

Turn Off Birthday Notifications

Are you fed up of the daily dose of birthday notifications on Facebook? Well, you can easily turn them off.

However, if you forget things, you are going to miss many birthday reminders but, if you remember your close friends’ birthday and are okay with turning this feature off, here are the steps:

Step 1: Open Facebook and tap the down arrow in the top bar. Click Settings from the menu.

Step 2: From the sidebar, click on Notifications. Then, click on Edit option next to the On Facebook option.

Step 3: Locate the Birthday option and from the drop-down box, choose the OFF option. This will disable birthday push notifications.

To turn off birthday notifications from the Facebook app, follow these steps:

Step 1: Tap the three-bar horizontal menu to open the navigation drawer and hit Notification Settings from the menu.

Step 2: Tap Birthdays and turn the toggle off for Allow Notifications on Facebook.

Pro Tip: In the above setting, you can also turn off or disable the Upcoming and belated birthday notifications.

Enjoy Your Day

Now that you know how to stop people from flooding your timeline with wishes on your birthday, it's time to celebrate it with your real friends. Enjoy your special day!

Facebook Birthday Wishes: Examples to Write as Status Updates, on Walls and Posts

happy birthday wishes on facebook wall

Facebook has always been a stellar resource for birthdays. Whether you're trying to remember how old your uncle is, or if you would rather write on someone's wall than call them (because talking on the phone is a hassle), it's a great way to stay up to date on the details of your friends' special days. Now, the social media site is adding a brand new feature that's totally going to up your birthday the game. If you haven't already heard about Facebook's new Birthday Stories Feature, it'll make any and all birthday celebrations even more special than they were before.

On the morning of Thursday, May 9, Facebook unveiled a totally new feature called Birthday Stories, and it's perfect for wishing the happiest of birthdays to your friends in the most personal way possible. According to the press release, anyone in someone's FB network can can add digital birthday cards, photos, or videos to a Birthday Story thread that's solely dedicated to whomever is celebrating their big day. All of the messages sent to the Birthday Story will be put together, creating an entire slideshow of "happy birthday" messages that are visual and interactive. The person celebrating their birthday can then share the Birthday Story publicly, or they can keep it for themselves. It's honestly a super cool way to send personal birthday wishes.

If you would like to add to someone else's Birthday Story, doing so is actually pretty simple. All you have to do is tap on your friend's birthday notification, according to the press release. You can also find the Birthday Story right at the top of your app in the Stories tray or by going to the person's FB profile page on your app. Then, you will record or upload a photo or video, or you can use one of Facebook's digital birthday cards to give your friend the birthday wish they deserve. It can even include a music sticker to jazz up your message, and when you're completely done, you can automatically add your wish to your friend's birthday story. Yes, it seriously is that easy. I'm truly shocked.

And if you're the one getting all the birthday love, you can choose to set your Birthday Story to public or private by toggling it on or off, and you can choose if it's viewable to everyone or just friends. To control your Birthday Story settings, you can tap the little settings wheel on the front of your Birthday Story, and there you can also make it so you approve each post before it's added to your Story. The settings will automatically be the same as your regular Story settings, so keep that in mind if you want to switch things up on your Birthday Story.

The Facebook Birthday Story capability will roll out on Thursday evening into Friday, May 10. If you don't have automatic updates on your phone, you'll want to make sure your Facebook app is updated so you can see the new feature.

In honor of Facebook's new Birthday Stories, the brand will also be partnering up with bakeries across the country to give away free treats on Friday, May 10, according to the press release. Yes, you heard that correctly, and the best part is that it doesn't even have to be your birthday. For more information, just check out their website, to see which bakeries will be participating near you. It's good for one treat per person, while supplies last, so I'd hop on that before you get too engrossed in the new Birthday Stories. In New York City, for example, they are to doing a giveaway at Flour Shop in SoHo. So, you can bet your bottom dollar I'll be there.

Wishing your pals a happy birthday on Facebook will always be a big deal, and apparently, that concept is totally generational. One of the top 10 things millennials care about in regard to their birthday is seeing how many people write on their Facebook timeline. And now, your birthday celebrations on FB are going to be so much more personal. Whether you upload a pic to your friend's Birthday Story or want to post a full-on video, your pals will definitely appreciate the effort.
