Discouragement is something everyone feels—including Christians.
There are times when a single word or an unmet expectation can deplete you of your confidence, deflate your faith, or make you feel disheartened. That's why the bible verse of the day is so powerful.
Think about it.
Anyone of these situations (and many more) can make you feel discouraged. They can take the wind right out of your sails.
Now, when you’re disappointed, it’s natural to desire peace in your heart. You want to be comforted. You want different results at work. You want peace in your family. Or you just want your money problems to go away.
There’s nothing wrong with wanting things to be different.
You just have to be careful not to wallow in self-pity for too long. Indulging in feelings of discouragement will fuel the sinful passions of your flesh (1 Pet. 2:11), and they can become an idol in your life if you chose to turn inward to your feelings instead of turning outward in faith to God.
To resolve the disappointment in your life, you cannot avoid challenging relationships, problems at work, or your financial struggles and think they’ll go away. That would be similar to ignoring a deadly disease in your body by avoiding medical help and believing you’re going to be okay.
So how do you fight discouragement? How can you break through the fog of disappointment?
There’s only one antidote to discouragement and that's encouragement.
Okay, I know this sounds simplistic, and I’m not talking about reciting a pithy quote from a motivational poster, either.
To defeat discouragement in your life you have to fight for encouragement in Christ.
To dislodge discouragement from your heart, you need to kindle the fire of your faith with encouraging Bible verses or simply reading a bible verse of the day.
You see, God not only reveals himself to us through the Bible. He also preserved the Bible to encourage us through the Scriptures so that “we might have hope”(Rom. 15:4). The Bible is a supernatural book, and the words in its pages have been written down to lead you to Christ and fill you with hope in Him.
To help you fight for encouragement in your life, we’re going to share with you a list of encouraging Bible verses you can meditate upon and that you can use as a bible verse of the day to fuel your faith in Christ.
In this post, we’re going to walk the following inspirational Bible verses:
“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.”
“The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.”
“Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.”
“The name of the LORD is a strong tower; the righteous man runs into it and is safe.”
“I have set the LORD always before me; because he is at my right hand, I shall not be shaken.”
“Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.”
“Be strong, and let your heart take courage, all you who wait for the LORD!”
“The LORD of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress.”
“Cast your burden on the LORD, and he will sustain you; he will never permit the righteous to be moved.”
“He only is my rock and my salvation, my fortress; I shall not be shaken.”
“The LORD is my strength and my song; he has become my salvation. Glad songs of salvation are in the tents of the righteous: ‘The right hand of the LORD does valiantly, the right hand of the LORD exalts, the right hand of the LORD does valiantly!’”
“You are my hiding place and my shield;I hope in your word. Depart from me, you evildoers, that I may keep the commandments of my God.”
“This is my comfort in my affliction, that your promise gives me life.”
“In my distress I called to the LORD, and he answered me.”
“You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you.”
But they who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.”
“Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
“When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through fire you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you.”
“Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”
“Jesus looked at them and said, ‘With man it is impossible, but not with God. For all things are possible with God.’”
“I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.”
“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.”
“Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing.”
“And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.”
“Casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.”
“Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be in dread of them, for it is the LORD your God who goes with you. He will not leave you or forsake you.”
“Only be strong and very courageous, being careful to do according to all the law that Moses my servant commanded you. Do not turn from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may have good success wherever you go.”
“The LORD is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble; he knows those who take refuge in him.”
“One thing have I asked of the LORD, that will I seek after: that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the LORD and to inquire in his temple.”
“Oh, taste and see that the LORD is good! Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him!”
“A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.”
“You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you.”
“Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.”
“And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.”
“What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?”
For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.”
“For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I have been fully known.”
“Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain.”
“Be watchful, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong.”
“So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day. For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal.”
“So that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith—that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God. Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever.”
“But whatever gain I had, I counted as loss for the sake of Christ. Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which comes through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God that depends on faith.”
“Therefore, brothers, since we have confidence to enter the holy places by the blood of Jesus, by the new and living way that he opened for us through the curtain, that is, through his flesh, and since we have a great priest over the house of God, let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful.”
“Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.”
“But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. Once you were not a people, but now you are God’s people; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.”
“Beloved, I urge you as sojourners and exiles to abstain from the passions of the flesh, which wage war against your soul.”
“Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.”
“See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are. The reason why the world does not know us is that it did not know him. Beloved, we are God’s children now, and what we will be has not yet appeared; but we know that when he appearswe shall be like him, because we shall see him as he is. And everyone who thus hopes in him purifies himself as he is pure.”
“And whatever we ask we receive from him, because we keep his commandments and do what pleases him.”
“The LORD is my strength and my song, and he has become my salvation; this is my God, and I will praise him, my father’s God, and I will exalt him.”
“Both riches and honor come from you, and you rule over all. In your hand are power and might, and in your hand it is to make great and to give strength to all.”
“The LORD your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you by his love; he will exult over you with loud singing.”
“Then he said to them, ‘Go your way. Eat the fat and drink sweet wine and send portions to anyone who has nothing ready, for this day is holy to our Lord. And do not be grieved, for the joy of the LORD is your strength.’”
“Out of the mouth of babies and infants, you have established strength because of your foes, to still the enemy and the avenger.”
“I love you, O LORD, my strength. The LORD is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer, my God, my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.”
“The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?”
“The salvation of the righteous is from the LORD; he is their stronghold in the time of trouble.”
“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear though the earth gives way, though the mountains be moved into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam, though the mountains tremble at its swelling.”
“With the mighty deeds of the Lord GOD I will come; I will remind them of your righteousness, yours alone.”
“My soul melts away for sorrow; strengthen me according to your word!”
“On the day I called, you answered me; my strength of soul you increased.”
“Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and will not be afraid; for the LORD GOD is my strength and my song, and he has become my salvation.”
“Have you not known? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable. He gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might he increases strength. Even youths shall faint and be weary, and young men shall fall exhausted; but they who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.”
“GOD, the Lord, is my strength; he makes my feet like the deer’s; he makes me tread on my high places. To the choirmaster: with stringed instruments.”
“Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.”
“But Jesus looked at them and said, ‘With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.’”
“And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.”
“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”
“So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day.”
“But he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me. For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong.”
“That according to the riches of his glory he may grant you to be strengthened with power through his Spirit in your inner being.”
“Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might.”
“I can do all things through him who strengthens me.”
“For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.”
