Welcoming your new baby with wishes of health, happiness and visit our new baby cards or why not take a look at our new baby gifts for.

Last Updated: Oct 4, 2018

You just received an invitation in the mail for your best friend’s baby shower. That’s so exciting! As the day approaches, you pick out the perfect gift for the child. All you need to do now is to write a card to go with the gift. How do you know exactly what to write in a baby shower card? Do you have to address the card to the couple or just your friend? These are a few questions that may be going through your mind before the shower. Luckily, here you will find the answers to all of your baby shower card questions and more.

Jump to a specific section to answer your question:

Who to Address in a Baby Shower

Deciding who to address in a baby shower card can be difficult. When you first receive the invitation, make sure to look at what it says. Most of the time, if it’s going to be a couple’s shower, it will say. If you are still unsure about the kind of shower it will be, reach out to the host to clarify.

If it’s a couple’s shower, you should address both of the parents in the card. In the case that the baby shower is more traditional, and it is just being thrown for the mother, address the card to the mom-to-be. When addressing the card, think about your relationship to the recipient. For example, if you are close to the mother you can be a little more casual. You can call her by a nickname you have for her or just by her first name.

Sometimes people decide to have a baby sprinkle or a diaper party. These are both less traditional options for a baby shower. Fit the wording and the tone of the message to the kind of shower that is being held.

Examples for addressing:

  • Dear “Mother’s Name”,
  • Dear “Father’s Name”,
  • Dear “Mother and Father’s Names”,
  • Dear the New Parents,

Special Baby Shower Wishes

When you are writing your baby shower card to the soon-to-be parents, you want to say exactly the right thing. Try and make sure that everything you say comes from the heart. If you do that, it is sure to sound more personal and genuine. The couple will most likely be getting a lot of cards and wishes, so keep it simple and to the point.

Traditional Card Wording

For a more classic card, consider sending a message that is more general. This is also a good option if you don’t know what the gender of the baby is yet.

  • We wish you and your new baby a lifetime of happiness and joy.
  • Congratulations to you two! I wish you both the best in parenthood and send well-wishes your way.
  • Here’s to new life and new adventures as parents. Congratulations!
  • I am so excited to welcome your little bundle of joy into the world.
  • Congratulations on the newest addition to your family. I can’t wait to watch your child as he/she grows.
  • We are so excited to hear the news! Congratulations on your child and may you all have forever happiness.

Religious Card Wording

If you and the couple are religious and you want to include this in the message, consider some of the following examples.

  • Babies are one of God’s greatest gifts. Congratulations on the wonderful gift you have received.
  • May you and your new child be blessed forever.
  • God bless you both as you enter into parenthood and welcome in new life.
  • May your life and your baby’s life be filled with blessings from above.
  • From the heavens above, God has sent you a baby to love. Congratulations!

Lovely Baby Shower Wishes for a Boy

If you know the gender of the child, you may want to tailor your message to that. For example, if the couple is having a baby boy, you can mention it in your message.

  • Here’s to many smiles and lots of laughter with your new baby boy.
  • Congratulations on your newest addition. May he always be happy and healthy.
  • I can’t wait to welcome your bundle of joy into the world. I hope he is forever safe and loved.
  • Best wishes to your newest addition. May your new baby boy be cherished and loved by everyone in his life.
  • I am so excited for you and your new baby boy! He is lucky to have such wonderful parents.
  • Here comes your little boy. He will fill your hearts with love and joy. Congratulations!

Sweet Baby Shower Wishes for a Girl

You may know the gender of the baby, and if you do, why not include that in the card? If the couple is having a baby girl, mention that in the cards.

  • Best wishes to you and your new baby girl. May she healthy and happy for life.
  • Here’s to your little ray of sunshine. I can’t wait to meet your beautiful baby girl.
  • Congratulations on your baby girl. She is lucky to have such loving parents by her side.
  • May your baby girl be showered with love and happiness. Congratulations.
  • I am so happy to hear about your baby girl. I hope she finds happiness and love throughout the rest of her life.
  • A cradle full of best wishes for your newborn baby girl. Congratulations!

Baby Shower Wishes for Twins

If the happy couple is having twins, you can get creative with your message to acknowledge the twins.

  • May your twins bring you double the fun! Best wishes to you all.
  • Double the giggles, double the grins, double the love, when you have twins! Congratulations.
  • Sending all of my love to your two bundles of joy. May both of your twins be showered in love.
  • Congratulations in double! I cannot wait to welcome your beautiful set of twins into the world.
  • With four arms hugging you instead of two, congratulations on having twins!
  • Double the love, double the joy, now that you have a baby girl and a baby boy. Congratulations on having twins.

Message for the Baby

Even though the shower is being held for the parents, don’t forget about the baby. You should write a message to the baby in the card. This can be advice or wishes to the baby that you would want them to eventually see.

Examples:

  • Welcome to the world little one. I am so excited to meet you!
  • I hope you are forever happy and healthy. You are being raised by the best parents, and they are so excited to meet you.
  • I am sure you will have your father’s smile and your mother’s laugh. May your life be filled with lots of joy and laughter.

Signing the Card

The last step to the baby shower card is signing it. When signing the card, think about your relationship to the parents. Sign off with wording that seems appropriate to your relationship.

Examples:

  • Love,
  • Best wishes,
  • All the best,
  • Many hugs and kisses,
  • Much love,

When someone you know is about to have a baby, it’s a time for celebration. The couple will cherish whatever wishes you give to them in your card, so take time when writing the card. Tailor the tone of the card to the occasion and your relationship with the parents. Make sure to include a special message for the baby and sign the card with what seems appropriate. The couple is sure to remember your card and smile when they see what you have written.

When deciding what to write in baby shower card, it can be difficult to know where to begin. That's why we compiled a list of wishes you can.

21 Best Thank You Messages for Christening

baby gift wishes

So you have been invited to a baby shower and asked to bring a book instead of a card. You’ve carefully made your book selection, perhaps aided by this list of books for baby showers, and now you have to figure what to write in a baby shower book. There are templates and guides for what to write in a baby shower card or other congratulatory missive for the parents-to-be, but what do you write in the book itself?

Some of the books we received at the baby shower where guests were asked to bring a book instead of a card.

There are two options for who the note is addressed to: the baby or the parents-to-be. At my baby shower, guests were asked to bring a book instead of a card, and they wrote their notes on the inside covers of the books. Some wrote congratulations to my husband and I, but for the most part, they were addressed to the baby, who we were calling Poppyseed.

A message from Poppyseed’s Great Aunt Lori – the inscription in her baby shower book.

And then what do you say to a baby you have never met, who has not even been born yet? Most of the baby shower book inscriptions my daughter received were about how loved she was, and the guests’ wishes for her future. Many mentioned reading and bedtime stories, and the other common inscription for a baby shower book was to link the message to the book itself. Inside ‘The Giving Tree’, my baby’s great-aunt wrote, ‘May your life be filled with the joy of giving and loving’. In ‘Giraffes Can’t Dance’, one guest wrote, ‘May you always find your own song’.

Wishes for bedtime – baby shower book inscription.

For the most part, what to write in a baby shower book should be personal, something from you to the baby, and no stranger on the internet can tell you what that should be.

That said, you would probably do well with something about your hopes and dreams for them, how loved they are, and perhaps something about reading, books, imagination, and adventure. Below are some quotes for baby shower book inscriptions that you could use for inspiration or as part of your message.

“Between the pages of a book is a wonderful place to be.” —Anonymous

What To Write In A Baby Shower Book: 15 Bookish Quotes

baby gift wishes

Being a baby shower guest sounds like easy business, right? Simply RSVP on time, pick a gift from the registry, wear something nice, play the Purse Game, eat some cake and your guest duties are done.

Not so fast. There’s still the matter of baby shower wishes. What to write in a baby shower card seems easy enough, but when it’s time to put pen to paper, you may find you don’t know the right baby shower messages to include.

Maybe you don’t know the mama that well, or maybe you know her so well that wrapping up the creation of life into a sentence is just too daunting a task. Before you decide to ditch the baby shower card messages in exchange for a more simple “To:” and “From:” generic gift tag, try a few lines from our long list of ideas of what to write in a baby shower card.

Baby Shower Card Etiquette

You wouldn’t think you’d need advice from Miss Manners regarding what to write in a baby shower card, but following a few easy baby shower card etiquette rules will ensure you won’t make a baby or mommy-to-be faux pas.

  • To whom it may concern: Even though baby showers have traditionally been ladies-only affairs, modern times mean that the celebrations are changing. The invitation may give you clues as to whom your baby shower messages should be addressed. If it doesn’t, inquire with the hostess when you RSVP. Or, play it safe and address your baby shower wishes to the “New Parents.”
  • Speak from the heart. While we’ve included plenty of great baby shower wishes to select from below, if you want your baby shower messages to be your own, use words from the heart.
  • Open to the public. If the mama is your best friend or sibling, you may have plenty of inside jokes. However, since you won’t know if she—or a gift assistant—will be reading the card messages aloud, skip any wishes for baby shower that might be inappropriate or too easily taken out of context.
  • Don’t forget baby. Mom and dad may be the center of attention at the shower, but don’t forget baby! In addition to baby shower wishes for the parents-to-be, say something sweet meant for the wee one entering the world.
  • K.I.S.S. When writer’s block sets in, K.I.S.S it. That is: “keep it simple, stupid.” After all, sometimes short and sweet is just right.
  • Where’s the love? Signing off the card with “love” may be sincere and heartfelt for someone who’s close to you. However, if the parents-to-be are coworkers or someone you’ve known for just a short while, consider one of the closers below for your baby shower wishes.
    • Best,
    • Your friend,
    • Blessings to you,
    • Happiness to you and your new family,
    • Happy baby!
    • Over the moon with excitement,
    • Joy to you,
    • XOXO!
    • Hugs and cuddles to your little one to come,

Some baby showers do away with disposable greeting cards and request guests to instead write their baby shower wishes inside the cover of a beloved children’s book. That can be a lot of pressure given your baby book messages may live on that child’s bookshelf for years to come, whereas a card can just end up in the trash. The good news is that so many wonderful baby and kids’ books can help inspire what to write in a baby shower card. Here are a few of our reads for little ones and the baby book messages to match.

  1. The Velveteen Rabbit by Margery Williams: Always know that you are loved, baby. And what makes anything real is love.
  2. The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein: A generous heart is always beautiful, especially to those in need. May you always be kind to others as well as to yourself, little one.
  3. Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak: Adventure is waiting all around you, baby! “Let the wild rumpus start!”
  4. The House at Pooh Corner by A.A. Milne: May you find friends all through your life as wonderful and special as those living in the Hundred Acre Wood.
  5. The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle: I can’t wait to watch you grow and become your very own version of a beautiful butterfly.
  6. Goodnight Moon by Margaret Wise Brown: Goodnight, sweet baby. I wish you sleepy nights filled with happy dreams to chase when you wake in the morning.
