Congolese heavyweight Ricky Misholas has sworn he will be a world champion by the end of 2019.
Misholas (7-8) came up short in his title fight with American Jared Vanderaa (9-3) at EFC 77, getting TKO’d in the second round at Pretoria’s Time Square on March 16.
After the contest, Misholas – who has previously teased a move to light heavyweight where the belt is up for grabs following Dalcha Lungiambula’s (9-1) defection to the UFC – insisted his quest for gold is not over.
He said: “First of all, I want to say thank you to the EFC; thank you to the crowd; thank you to all my fellow Africans. I know that I let you guys down. I really appreciate your support. I wasn’t expecting this from you guys.
“But you know what it is, tonight Jared was the best man. And we are not giving up. A legend doesn’t stop. A legend asks what is next. Graeme [EFC matchmaker, Cartmell], what is next?
“And I promise you guys, before the end of the year I will be the world champion – the EFC world champ.”
