Hughes signs with Bellator

English lightweight Gavin Hughes has traded the Extreme Fighting Championship for Bellator MMA.

Hughes (9-1) follows in the footsteps of compatriot Cal Ellenor (8-2), who made the switch in January and then beat ex-Cage Warriors flyweight champion Nathan Greyson (6-3) the next month on home soil.

Both men were signed by the US-based promotion after losing title fights in the EFC.

Ellenor went down to Luthando Biko (5-1) in a battle for the interim bantamweight belt in November, 2018, while Hughes previously missed out on the 70kg strap to Martin van Staden (26-12) in March last year.

‘Big Tasty’ will make his Bellator debut in Birmingham on May 4, with his opponent yet to be named.
