Tumisang Madiba has a new opponent at EFC 77 after Devon Cronje withdrew from their bout in Pretoria on Saturday with an injury.
Cronje (3-1) damaged his knee in training and has been replaced on the card by DR Congo’s Serge Kasanda ( 3-2), who halted veteran Chad Hepburn (0-7) in November for a third straight finish in the hexagon.
Cronje said on social media: “Unfortunately I’ve sustained an injury during training that’s taking me out of action on Saturday.
“I’ve been medically suspended for 6 weeks due to a partly torn meniscus and damaged LCL.
“I understand the hate posts from Madiba, he’s very emotional at the moment since it was a big fight for him but hopefully we can run it back soon.”
Madiba (8-6) snapped a three-fight skid at bantamweight with a third-round TKO of prospect Billy Oosthuizen (3-1) in his previous test in December.
‘The President’ will meet Kasanda at lightweight in the prelims of EFC 77, which sees ex-70kg champion Martin van Staden (26-11) battle Joe Cummins (5-1) for the vacant strap in the headliner at Time Square.
