The EFC have announced ex-flyweight title challenger Gary Joshua will fight Englishman Coner Hignett in Cape Town on April 13 at GrandWest Arena.
Matchmaker Graeme Cartmell last week revealed he would book the fight for EFC 78, which is headlined by a unification bout between bantamweight champion JP Buys (6-2) and interim champ Luthando Biko (5-1).
Joshua (4-1), who trains under Steve Bazzea at Straight Blast Gym CT in Fish Hoek, is looking to rebound from a fifth-round submission loss to flyweight king Nkazimulo Zulu (10-2-1) at the same venue in November 2018.
Zulu is also scheduled to fight on the main card of EFC 78, against Hignett’s (6-4) compatriot Jake Hadley (3-0).
Like Joshua, Hignett tasted defeat last time out, suffering a first-round TKO at the hands of Sam Creasey (10-2) at Cage Warriors 96 in September 2018.
The Liverpool-based athlete is currently preparing to battle Alex Valyandis (5-0) for the vacant UK Fighting Championships belt in Preston on March 23.
He’s fought once before in the EFC, losing to Bokang Masunyane (5-0) by unanimous decision about a year ago.
Meanwhile, August Kayambala (1-1) versus Sindile Manengela (4-6), Saxon Delafield (4-4) vs Rodrique Kena (3-2), Shaun de Lange (4-3) vs Marcel Teniers (4-4), Willem Smit (0-2) vs Zaakir Badat (0-0) and Paulwetu Namba (0-0) vs Imke Smit (0-0) have been scheduled for the prelims of EFC 78.
