Buys vs Biko for undisputed honours

EFC bantamweight king JP Buys will battle interim champion Luthando Biko for undisputed honours at GrandWest Arena in Cape Town on April 13.

Buys (6-2) will be making his return to the hexagon after a year’s absence, having beat Gamzat Magomedov (3-1) via disqualification in Bahrain-based MMA promotion Brave Combat Federation in Pakistan in October 2018 in the mean time.

The Coach Quan University standout and accomplished wrestler won the strap by submitting Frenchman Philippe Rouch (7-4) with a first-round guillotine choke in his previous EFC outing.

Biko (5-1), a decorated judoka hailing from Chris Bright’s camp in Port Elizabeth, claimed EFC interim gold by dominating Englishman Cal Ellenor (7-2), who has since been signed by Bellator MMA, over five frames at GrandWest Arena in November last year.

The EFC’s first card of 2019 will be at Time Square in Pretoria on March 16. It will be headlined by former lightweight champ Martin van Staden (26-11) going up against Joe Cummins (5-1) for the vacant belt.
