Mamelodi-born Conrad Seabi desperately wants a rematch with Brazilian Jose da Rocha as he felt their first contest was stopped prematurely by referee Bobby Karagiannidis.
Seabi (6-5) was TKO’d by Da Rocha (10-5) barely 50 seconds into their welterweight scrap on the main card of EFC 76 at Time Square in Pretoria on December 8.
Seabi, who was closing in on a title shot with five wins from his previous six outings, insists he was not out of the fight.
He said afterwards: “I’m not taking anything away from Bobby or Da Rocha, no, I’m not. But … I was not out. I need a rematch for this fight. I was still standing.
“No, I’m not saying Bobby is a bad ref. No, he’s a good referee. He’s been here for long, you know what I mean. I don’t want to disrespect Bobby or maybe Da Rocha says, ‘no, he didn’t do what he has to’.
“For me, I’m not satisfied honestly speaking. I need a rematch on this fight.”
Da Rocha, speaking through a translator, said he was willing to do the fight over.
