Quotations by Dr. Seuss, American Writer, Born March 2, 1904. Share with your friends. A person's a person, no matter how small. Dr. Seuss. Respect Small.

Do you need a dose of inspiration to get through a challenging day?

Theodor Geisel, who generations of readers knew by his beloved pseudonym, Dr. Seuss, is an expert in the field of the inspirational. He is known for lifting us up from the harshness of ordinary life in order to see the good in others, as well as within ourselves.

This is the essence of Geisel’s work. And you have probably encountered it in his books, Oh, The Places You’ll Go!, The Cat In The Hat, and Green Eggs and Ham.

Today, we feature 55 Dr. Seuss quotes for the places you’ll go. We hope that they will give you a much-needed boost when you encounter a challenging day or when you doubt your own wonderful abilities.

You’ll find heartwarming Dr. Seuss quotes about life, on love, for graduation, and about reading and learning.

First, let’s dive into the wonderfully exciting Dr. Seuss quotes about life. The pearls of wisdom from his books are like a breath of fresh air through our view of how we are supposed to live. Here they are.

Dr. Seuss Quotes About Life

Step with care and great tact. And remember that life's a great balancing act.” – Dr. Seuss

It's opener, out there, in the wide, open air.

If things start happening, don't worry, don't stew, just go right along and you'll start happening too.

Don’t cry because it's over. Smile because it happened.

You oughta be thankful a whole heaping lot for the people and places you’re lucky you’re NOT.

Only you can control the future.

“Just tell yourself, Duckie, you’re really quite lucky!

If you'd never been born, then you might be an Isn't! An Isn't has no fun at all. No, he disn't.

I'm sorry to say so but, sadly, it's true that Bang-ups and Hang-ups can happen to you.

Take every chance, drop every fear.

If you keep your eyes open enough, oh, the stuff you will learn. Oh, the most wonderful stuff.

Just go. Go. Go! I don’t care how. You can go by foot. You can go by cow.

For some people, finding the right person to love is sometimes a challenge. Others, in fact, are pressured by relationship goals even before they find the right person.

They want things to be just right when it comes to love.

Dr. Seuss suggests being ourselves when it comes to love. Then, the right person will come. Perhaps this person will also share our quirks and interests. The good doctor thinks that this type of relationship is worth the wait.

Also, there’s no denying that the reality of having someone to love is an amazing experience. That, too, Dr. Seuss thinks, is worth losing sleep over.

Here are some Dr. Seuss quotes on love to convince you that, sometimes, weirder is better.

Dr. Seuss Quotes on Love

Life’s too short to wake up with regrets. So love the people who treat you right, forgive the ones who don’t and believe that everything happens for a reason. If you get a chance, take it. If it changes your life, let it. Nobody said it’d be easy, they just promised it would be worth it.

fall asleep because reality is finally better than your dreams.” – Dr. Seuss | dr seuss quotes about family | dr seuss quotes about learning | dr seuss quotes for teachers #inspirationalquotes #lovequotes #quotes" width="735" height="1102" title="Dr. Seuss Quotes on Love" data-id="12999" src="https://www.developgoodhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/reality-better-than-dreams.jpg" style="width: 100%;">

You know you’re in love when you can’t fall asleep because reality is finally better than your dreams.” – Dr. Seuss

To the world you may be one person; but to one person you may be the world.

I am weird, you are weird. Everyone in this world is weird. One day two people come together in mutual weirdness and fall in love.

I’m glad we had the times together just to laugh and sing a song, seems like we just got started and then before you know it, the times we had together were gone.

And what happened then? Well, in Whoville they say that the Grinch's small heart grew three sizes that day.

Geisel was a master when it comes to writing about life. Often the messages are hidden in kiddie rhymes.

Children usually enjoy the images and sing-song rhymes of his stories. Adults, however, are often touched by the messages seemingly left for them in nonsensical-sounding lines in any Dr. Seuss book.

Soon-to-be graduates can take inspiration from his words. They remind us of the important of responsibility. His rhymes tell us that we can make a more powerful to the world when we are ourselves.

He reminds us that even when our formal education ends, learning should never stop. He’s probably one of the best examples of people possessing a growth mindset.

Check out an article explaining why growth mindset is actually one of the main ingredients for success.

So, here are some of the inspiring lines of all time — Dr. Seuss quotes for graduation. After reading them, you’ll find that you’re actually capable of moving mountains.

Dr. Seuss Quotes for Graduation

A person’s a person, no matter how small.

Today you are You, that is truer than true. There is no one alive who is Youer than You.

Whether you color the world or light it up blue, you are making a difference. So keep being you.” – Dr. Seuss

Think left and think right and think low and think high. Oh, the thinks you can think up if only you try!

Kid, you’ll move mountains.

Oh the things you can find, if you don’t stay behind!

Think and wonder, wonder and think.

And will you succeed? You will, indeed! (98 and ¾ percent guaranteed).

Don’t give up. I believe in you all.

All alone! Whether you like it or not, alone is something you’ll be quite a lot!

Dr. Seuss saw the importance of instilling a reading habit in children. After all, the love for books and reading is a gateway to the world of imagination.

Reading is also a way to get information, making you smarter. Moreover, studies have shown that reading improves concentration and relieves stress.

Not only is reading a source of entertainment, it is also a way of developing creativity, especially in children.

Meanwhile, the love of learning, as we previously discussed, is one of the gateways to a successful life. More importantly, learning and trying something new can improve your personal life (and even your professional life) in ways you’ve never imagined.

In the next section, you can see how the good doctor holds reading and learning in high esteem through these Dr. Seuss Quotes About Reading and Learning.

Read on for further inspiration.

Dr. Seuss Quotes About Reading and Learning

The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go.

So the writer who breeds more words than he needs, is making a chore for the reader who reads.

Words and pictures are yin and yang. Married, they produce a progeny more interesting than either parent.

You have to be a speedy reader because there’s so so much to read.

Fill your house with stacks of books, in all the crannies and all the nooks.” – Dr. Seuss

Ninety percent of the children’s books patronize the child and say there’s a difference between you and me, so you listen to this story. I, for some reason or another, don’t do that. I treat the child as an equal.

Fiction Is My Addiction.

Children's reading and children's thinking are the rock-bottom base upon which this country will rise. Or not rise. In these days of tension and confusion, writers are beginning to realize that books for children have a greater potential for good or evil than any other form of literature on earth.

If you never did, you should. These things are fun, and fun is good.

And when they played they really PLAYED. And when they worked they really WORKED.

Be who you are and say what you mean. Because those who mind don’t matter and those who matter don’t mind.

It is better to know how to learn than to know.

I like nonsense, it wakes up the brain cells.

22 inspirational Dr Seuss quotes that you really need in your life

Published on: 02 March 2017 Author: Catriona Wightman

Dr Seuss is one of the most legendary children's authors ever, and he's having a very big month.

Not only is 2 March the anniversary of Dr Seuss' birth, but The Cat in the Hat celebrates 60 years since it was first published on 12 March, so of course we had to celebrate.

And what better way to do that than by returning to the classics? We re-read some of our favourite Dr Seuss masterpieces to pick out the inspirational quotes that will motivate you, make you think... and give you a bit of a giggle too.

1. When all you want to do is read a good book

Here's evidence from a doctor (even if not exactly a real one) that reading can transport you around the world. We need no further excuse to head to the library (especially because, as Dr Seuss points out, 'You have to be a speedy reader 'cause there's so, so much to read!')

2. Why you should treat everyone with kindness

We could all do with being a bit more like Horton.

3. For when you're feeling nostalgic

There's more joy ahead - Dr Seuss says so.

4. When you feel like over-indulging

Don't say we didn't warn you. You don't want to be Silly Sammy Slick.

5. For those times you need a bit of a nudge

Your destiny is in your hands. Exciting, isn't it?

6. When you feel like abusing your power

Sure, it might be nice to be in charge... but ignore the little guys propping you up at your peril. We don't want to spoil anything, but let's just say that Yertle the Turtle found this out the hard way.

7. On those gloomy days

There's always a bright side.

8. When you need to be inspired

'THINK! You can think any THINK that you wish...'

9. When you're having a bad day in the mirror

A welcome reminder that you're lovely just the way you are - don't go changing.

10. For those tricky dilemmas

Don't end up so torn that you end up empty-handed... take inspiration from this little guy choosing a pet ('I will make up the mind that is up in my head.')

11. When you need cheering up

It could always be worse.

12. For those times you really just need someone to go away

We all have them.

13. When you're feeling powerless

The smallest thing can make the biggest difference. Forget the flap of a butterfly's wings - we much prefer world-altering burps.

14. If you're glued to your phone

Look around - there's so much to see.

15. When you just need some good old-fashioned motivation

(But want to remain realistic.)

16. When you're feeling uninspired

You can make anything more exciting with a bit of effort (or a lot of effort in the case of Peter T. Hooper, who was probably very, very hungry by the time he'd collected his breakfast eggs from Twiddler Owls, Kweets and Stroodels among others).

17. To remind people that everyone is equal

The Star-Belly Sneetches might have sniffed at the Plain-Belly Sneetches... but they soon discovered that they're all really the same. We could all learn from that.

18. When things have been getting you down

As Dr Seuss points out, 'there are troubles of more than one kind - some come from ahead and some come from behind'. You can try to run from them, or you can stand up and fight...

19. When you want to save the world

Everyone deserves to be free.

20. When you think you don't matter

You really do - Dr Seuss says so.

21. For those times you need reminding that you're special

You really are unique.

22. And, of course, for Christmas time...

If The Grinch can grow his heart by three sizes, all of us can.

95 Dr. Seuss Quotes On Happiness, Gratitude and Success

short dr suess quotes

Dr. Seuss is one of the most quoted authors of all time. His words have motivated the reluctant reader, inspired the uninspired and entertained the bored. There are many things that Dr. Seuss felt passionately about such as playtime, imaginary worlds, a little nonsense or a lot! But one thing close to his heart was reading. Theodor Seuss Geisel AKA Dr. Seuss wanted to write books that children would enjoy reading. He created characters like the cat in the hat to engage with the younger reader and to teach them to have fun. Motivating young children to read was Dr. Seuss’s ultimate goal and throughout his amazing career he has always communicated the importance of reading. For world book day and Dr. Seuss’s birthday we have created a list of 5 Dr. Seuss quotes about reading:

Dr. Seuss Quotes about Reading:

1. “The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.”
Have you ever heard of the saying ‘leaders are readers’? There is no doubt about it. People who read more, are more likely to be seen as leaders to their peers due to their expert knowledge. Reading helps you to learn about cool new things, such as how the world works or about new exotic places around the globe. Having this knowledge can open up many doors in the future. You never know when your knowledge of sea life creatures or another culture could get you in the future!

2. “You can find magic wherever you look. Sit back and relax, all you need is a book.”
Having a gloomy, hopeless day? Don’t let your problems bring you down. Just read a book! Reading a book, really is your magical portal to another universe. The best part of reading stories is you can be whoever you want and anything is possible. You can be a flying elf or a crime fighting detective mouse. Things you couldn’t possibly experience in the real world. So grab that book and unleash the magic of story-telling.

3.  “You’re never too old, too wacky, too wild, to pick up a book and read to a child.”
Reading is not only for children or the extremely intelligent. Anyone who wants to read, can read! There are so many options out there, whether you’re a sci-fi nerd or a comedy lover. Pay a visit to your local library or book shop and find the right book for you! There are no excuses for not reading a book. None at all!

4.  “Fantasy is a necessary ingredient in living.”
Here Dr. Seuss is pointing out the importance of dreaming and being hopeful. Reading in general is fundamental in improving creativity. Dr. Seuss in particular aimed to encourage his readers to explore their imagination and to have fun with it. From the way he wrote to the way his characters looked. Inspiring imagination through reading was important to Dr. Seuss and an essential ingredient in motivating reluctant readers.

5.  “I can read in red. I can read in blue. I can read in pickle color too.”
Aah, the joy of reading. This quote from the Dr. Seuss book ‘I Can Read With My Eyes Shut!’ displays the excitement you can get from reading. Once you know your ABC’s you’re ready to set the world on fire! Red, blue, pickle green, whatever colour you like! Once you can read, the power is in your hands to do whatever you want with the knowledge! Anyone else thinking of world domination!

99 Dr. Seuss Quotes Full Of Wit, Wisdom, And Lots Of Fun

short dr suess quotes

Picture your childhood. Focus in on the bedtime stories you remember. What do you see? A Dr. Seuss book, perhaps?

You’d be in good company if this is what you said – it is estimated that some half a billion of his books have been sold over the years.

Whether it’s The Cat in the Hat, Green Eggs and Ham, The Lorax, or one of his other 40+ books, no childhood is quite complete without a regular dose of Seusstastic goodness.

His rhyming verses and the perfectly penned cartoon imagery that accompanies them are not only fantastically fun to read, they contain countless life lessons. These not only teach young children, though; any person of any age can learn a great deal from the messages contained within each tale.

Want to get all these profound teachings in a condensed form? Then check out these 32 Dr. Seuss quotes and be prepared to have your mind blown.

You have brains in your head.
You have feet in your shoes.
You can steer yourself any direction you choose.
You’re on your own.
And you know what you know.
And YOU are the one who’ll decide where to go.
(Oh, The Places You’ll Go!)

The lesson: you have the power to determine your future. You know yourself better than anyone, and it is your choice as to which path you walk in life. You have the talent, you have the means to move as you wish, and you have the final say over your destiny.

Think left and think right and think low and think high.
Oh, the thinks you can think up if only you try!
(Oh, The Thinks You Can Think!)

The lesson: your imagination is a wondrous thing and you should use it as often as you can. Don’t be afraid to think outside the box, because the box only confines your mind to a limited space. Go beyond that and think every which way you can.

The more that you read, the more things you will know.
The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.
(I Can Read With My Eyes Shut!)

The lesson: one way to fuel your imagination is to read, read, and then read some more. And those places you’ll go don’t have to be physical, they can be metaphorical too. Always be learning new things and you’ll never get bored.

So, on beyond Z!
It’s high time you were shown
That you really don’t know
All there is to be known.
(On Beyond Zebra!)

The lesson: what you know is just a drop in the vast ocean of knowns and unknowns. This is a good thing because not only does it drive you on to keep reading and learning, but you are forced to accept that some things are beyond knowledge.

There’s no limit to how much you’ll know,
depending how far beyond zebra you go.
(On Beyond Zebra!)

The lesson: your mind has such amazing capacity to learn and develop, so don’t set finite limits on how far you can go. Break beyond the bounds that your past has set for you, and challenge yourself to see just how far you can go.

You’re off to Great Places!
Today is your day!
Your mountain is waiting,
So… get on your way!
(Oh, The Places You’ll Go!)

The lesson: the world is waiting for you and there is no better day than today to greet it. The mountain is the challenge of life and it is up to you to find your way to the summit.

I have heard there are troubles of more than one kind.
Some come from ahead and some come from behind.
But I’ve bought a big bat. I’m all ready you see.
Now my troubles are going to have troubles with me!
(I Had Trouble in Getting to Solla Sollew)

The lesson: the road ahead of you is lined with challenges, so be prepared to face them head on. Show them who’s boss and don’t let them stop you from getting where you want to go.

Today you are You, that is truer than true.
There is no one alive who is Youer than You.
(Happy Birthday to You!)

The lesson: you are unique on this planet and you bring something special to all those you meet. So celebrate your individuality and don’t let others stop you from being the person you wish to be.

It’s not about what it is, it’s about what it can become.
(The Lorax)

The lesson: you are a seed of great potential and it is not about who you are now or what you have, it is about what you can become if you realize that potential.

And will you succeed? Yes! You will, indeed!
(98 and ¾ percent guaranteed)
(Oh, The Places You’ll Go!)

The lesson: if you put your mind to it, your success is almost guaranteed. That goes for things both big and small, whatever your personal definition of success may be.

You’ll miss the best things if you keep your eyes shut.
(I Can Read With My Eyes Shut!)

The lesson: you have to keep your eyes open or you’ll miss out on so much of life; not only the beauty of the world around you, but the opportunities that come your way from time to time.

Today was good.
Today was fun.
Tomorrow is another one.
(One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish)

The lesson: every new day is a chance to have fun and enjoy yourself. When one day is over, don’t long for it; embrace the blank slate of tomorrow and make it just as good.

Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It’s not.
(The Lorax)

The lesson: this applies to so many things in life. Whether it is the care you show to a loved one in their time of need, the care you show to a stranger in theirs, or the care you show toward the whole world in the way you act, you can help to make things better.

Don’t give up! I believe in you all.
A person’s a person, no matter how small!
(Horton Hears a Who!)

The lesson: this is a rallying call to anyone who feels helpless and not listened to. Your voice matters and you must keep on trying to make it heard. And your actions, no matter how small, do make a big difference – remember that.

Oh the things you can find, if you don’t stay behind!
(On Beyond Zebra!)

The lesson: when the train of change rumbles through your life, be brave, get on it, and see where it takes you. If you stay behind, you’ll never know what might have been.

So be sure when you step, step with care and great tact.
And remember that life’s A Great Balancing Act.
(Oh, The Places You’ll Go!)

The lesson: life is better when it is balanced and it’s your responsibility to try and maintain that balance as best you can. This applies to everything from how you manage your time to how you choose to deal with other people.

Only you can control your future.

The lesson: often attributed to Dr. Seuss (though an exact reference is absent), this quote reflects the lessons from the very first one on this list. It relates to your locus of control and how you should see yourself as being in charge of your life, rather than thinking things simply happen to you.

I know it is wet and the sun is not sunny,
but we can have lots of good fun that is funny.
(The Cat In The Hat)

The lesson: life is not all sunshine and smiles – things can quickly go south and really challenge us. But even in these testing times, it is still possible to have a heck of a lot of fun. It’s your attitude that determines this.

I know, up on top you are seeing great sights,
but down here at the bottom we, too, should have rights.
(Yertle the Turtle and Other Stories)

The lesson: this one’s a little bit more political in nature. It reminds us that everyone is deserving of the same rights and the same treatment as each other. No matter how successful, rich, or powerful you may be, treat your fellow person with kindness and compassion.

Fantasy is a necessary ingredient in living; it’s a way of looking at life through the wrong end of a telescope.

The lesson: from an interview Seuss gave, this sums up his approach to living. Don’t just see what everyone else sees; try to look at things from a different perspective too. Use that imagination of yours and bring the world to life in a new way.

You won’t lag behind, because you’ll have the speed.
You’ll pass the whole gang and you’ll soon take the lead.
Wherever you fly, you’ll be best of the best.
Wherever you go, you will top all the rest.
Except when you don’t.
Because, sometimes, you won’t.
(Oh, The Places You’ll Go!)

The lesson: being competitive and confident in your own abilities is great, as long as you accept the reality that sometimes you won’t be the best at something. Be humble and realize that you can’t be good at everything.

Just tell yourself, Duckie, you’re really quite lucky!
(Did I Ever Tell You How Lucky You Are?)

The lesson: consider just how lucky you are to have all the wonderful abundance that flows through your life. You may not realize it, but you have a lot to be thankful for, and many are surviving with a lot less than you.

They say I’m old-fashioned, and live in the past, but sometimes I think progress progresses too fast!
(The Lorax)

The lesson: there are lots of benefits to slowing down and taking your time. The modern world has given us so much, but progress does not always provide the benefits we think. Learn to take a leaf from days gone by.

I’m afraid that sometimes
you’ll play lonely games too.
Games you can’t win
’cause you’ll play against you.
(Oh, The Places You’ll Go!)

The lesson: without realizing it, we can often be our own worst enemies. We whisper harsh words in our own ears, we sabotage our own happiness, and we hurt ourselves in untold ways. Recognizing this fact is the first step to preventing it.

So, open your mouth, lad! For every voice counts!
(Horton Hears a Who!)

The lesson: speak up! Say what you feel. Support the causes that sing to your heart. Don’t let others talk over you. Don’t assume that their opinions matter more than yours – they don’t. Be a voice for positive change.

If you never did, you should. These things are fun, and fun is good.
(One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish)

The lesson: this is a call to the close-minded to try new things, be open to new possibilities, and find the fun in all the little things. If you ever wonder whether you should, the answer is probably yes!

You are you. Now, isn’t that pleasant?
(Happy Birthday to You!)

The lesson: understand that you are far more than you think you are, and that you are worthy of your own love and acceptance. Really, when you strip everything else back, you are a decent, caring human being, and that’s worth celebrating.

Think and wonder, wonder and think.
(Oh, The Places You’ll Go!)

The lesson: never let that sense of wonder escape you; hold onto it, cherish it, and let it fill your world with excitement and joy.

From there to here,
from here to there,
funny things are everywhere!
(One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish)

The lesson: there is fun and laughter to be found everywhere you look, all you have to do is open your mind to it. Even the most mundane of things can be turned into a more enjoyable experience.

Today I shall behave, as if this is the day I will be remembered.

The lesson: the first of 3 quotes commonly attributed to Dr. Seuss, it reminds us that our actions will live long in the memories of others and that we should behave as we would want to be remembered.

Why fit in when you were born to stand out?

The lesson: each one of us is unique, so why do we pour so much energy into trying to fit in? Embrace your quirks and don’t be afraid to show your true self to the world – it may not always accept you straight away, but isn’t it better to live an authentic life?

Don’t cry because it’s over. Smile because it happened.

The lesson: good things have to come to and end – it’s just how life is. Rather than commiserate your bad luck when things are over, celebrate that you were able to enjoy it while it lasted.
